The Problem With Eating Too Much Sugar

When you’re transforming your health, considering how much sugar you consume is one of the most important things you can do. Today, we’re going to talk about the problems with eating too much sugar and give you a few tips to cut back!

The Problem With Consuming Too Much Sugar

Let’s start by acknowledging that not all sugar is bad. Sugar is found in many healthy foods, including fruits and dairy products, and your body can use it as a source of energy. Cutting sugar out entirely is unnecessary for good health, and it wouldn’t be much fun if you did!

Of course, that doesn’t mean you should eat as much of it as you can. Research suggests that higher intake of sugar is associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease. It’s a significant source of calories, so it can make weight management much more difficult. And unsurprisingly, it’s also a major factor in tooth decay. That’s why it’s important to cut down on the added sugars that are found in many foods.

Tips for Reducing Sugar

It’s not always easy to avoid sugar. You can use these tips to cut back!

  • Watch what you drink. Sodas are the most obvious examples of drinks that are loaded with sugar, but they’re not the only offenders. Juices, even ones that are made with 100% fruit juice, can pack a lot of sugar, and specialty coffee drinks can have as much sugar as a milkshake! Stick with water and your favorite Yoli drinks, which are sweetened with stevia rather than sugar.
  • Read nutritional panels. Even foods that are marketed as healthy can be packed with sugar, so make sure you check the label so you know what you’re eating. You’ll be surprised to find that even foods such as pasta sauces, salad dressings, and bread often have a lot of sugar.
  • Look out for fat-free versions of food. When food manufacturers remove the fat, they often replace it with sugar. Again, make sure you carefully read the nutritional facts before you make a purchase!
  • Reserve sweet treats for special occasions. Moderation is key when it comes to your physical and emotional health. If it’s your birthday, it’s okay to have a slice of cake. You just don’t want to make it a daily indulgence! Save those sweet treats for special occasions, and you’ll find it much easier to manage your sugar intake.
